Please hear Patrick Lundy and The Ministers of Music on their latest project “By Faith” featuring the hit single “He’s My Rock.” Besides, their extraordinary gifts and talents continue to revolutionize the gospel music industry coupled with inevitable proof of an even greater future.
Founder-Director Lundy is a native of Thomasville, Georgia, where he received his early childhood education. In fact, he is endowed by God with an exquisite melodic distinctive rooted and grounded in the rich tradition of the church. It was in this very environment, at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville, where he started his music ministry playing the piano at the age of 4 before his feet could even touch the pedals. Moreover, he started singing at the age of 6. During his adolescence, he was remarkably blessed to work with church choirs and choral groups specifically, the Thomasville Music and Drama Troupe. He was also a Charter Member of the Georgia Mass Choir.
His educational background exemplifies his spirit of excellence. He graduated from Thomasville High School, Thomasville, Georgia. In 1985, Lundy relocated to Washington, DC and matriculated at Howard University. He earned a degree in Music Business with a Concentration in Management and Voice. During his matriculation at Howard University, Lundy also sang with the Howard University Choir under the direction of the renowned Dr. J. Weldon Norris. He also sang and served as musician as an Assistant Director with the Howard University Gospel Choir under the direction of the incomparable Arphelius Paul Gatling, III.
Notably, Lundy served at several churches in the Washington Metropolitan Area. He received formal training under the tutelage of Minister of Music Carolyn Henry of the First Missionary Baptist Church. He formerly served as the Minister of Music at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. He was also on the faculty of Eastern Senior High School where he worked with the esteemed Dr. Joyce Garrett and the internationally acclaimed Eastern High School Gospel Choir. Significantly, he has assisted annually in the training and conducting of youth and adult choirs for the nationally televised network and PBS specials for the Kennedy Center Honors, Christmas in Washington, The Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth. He is a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America which was founded by the late Rev. Dr. James Cleveland and the recipient of numerous honors and awards. He has traveled extensively, both nationally and internationally.
He is married to the former Joyce N. Spears, an accomplished classical soloist.
He also served as a musician with The Jubilee Majestic Concert Choir of Washington, D.C., directed by Dr. Kirdell S. Minor in the late 1980s. He also worked with Minister Donald Vails at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Fort Washington, Maryland from 1988-1995. Not only is he a skillful world-class vocalist, his talents transcend various creative art forms such as an accomplished pianist and organist, gifted choral director, writer, arranger, composer, director, vocal coach and he is an exceptional workshop clinician. He simultaneously projects his uncompromising vocal talents and musical gifts to an unprecedented level of artistic achievements. He is in high demand throughout the country for his God infused gifts and talents. Simply stated, he excels in the excellent!
As a visionary extraordinaire, Lundy realized the materialization of one of his visions when he founded The Ministers of Music in May, 1994. The Ministers of Music is an astounding community choir of committed and gifted choir directors, skillful ministers of music, prolific soloists, dynamic music educators and powerful ordained ministers of the gospel. This incredible and engaging community choir officially debuted in November 1994 at the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. Other compelling performances for the group include appearances at the White House, the U.S. Senate, representing the United States at the World’s Fair in Lisbon, Portugal, touring Spain and Italy, performing on the stage of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, performing at the Historic Howard Theatre, performing for the Philadelphia 76ers and for other prestigious events and venues. Under the remarkable direction of Lundy, the Choir has performed for several Presidential inaugurations and Congressional Black Caucus events. On September 9, 2006, they performed for the Congressional Black Caucus Prayer Breakfast at the Reid Temple A.M.E. Community Day. They were also magnificently blessed and honored to participate in three (3) of the activities celebrating the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Other highlights of this phenomenal choir which heightens your appreciation of a rewarding listening experience include: an appearance with a virtual “Who’s Who” in gospel and secular music, opening for Albertina Walker and The Caravans Reunion CD Release and taping BET’s “Bobby Jones Gospel Show” with Tramaine Hawkins and the late Edwin Hawkins all on the same day. The next exceptional visionary gift of Lundy’s was birthed in the fall of 2013 with the launching of Patrick Lundy & The Ministers of Music – Georgia Connection, another outstanding aggregation.
The Choir delivers enormous sensitivity, musicality and sheer expressiveness with their compelling vocal talent. Notably, the more the group contemplates the awesomeness of God -- the more they sing to the glory of God! They have also appeared with secular artists such as B.B. King, Lyle Lovett, Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson, Jennifer Holiday and many others.
Kudos are certainly in order for their recently compelling 8th CD “By Faith” released at the 50th Anniversary Convention of the Gospel Music Workshop of America in Atlanta, Georgia. This riveting project contains the wonderment of sound and is listed in “The Journal of Gospel Music’s List Best CDs of 2017.”
For gospel music connoisseurs who want to savor the best of Patrick Lundy and The Ministers of Music “By Faith” and the single “He’s My Rock” is just what you’ve been waiting for! You will certainly want to add to your gospel collection other CD projects from this dynamic group.
